BalkanSplash is a 24-month transnational initiative designed to strengthen aquatic sports development in the Western Balkans. The project introduces structured finswimming programs in Albania (for the first time) and enhances water polo development in both Kosovo and Albania. It provides capacity building for coaches, promotes inclusion and gender equality, and encourages cross-border cooperation among sports organizations.
The project brings together partners from Kosovo, Albania, Croatia, and Turkiye, combining expertise in aquatic sports, coaching, education, and EU project management.
Why this project?
In the Western Balkan region, aquatic sports remain underdeveloped, with limited opportunities for young people - especially girls, minorities, and socially vulnerable groups. Finswimming is not yet established in Albania, and water polo lacks structured grassroots development in both Albania and Kosovo.
BalkanSplash addresses these challenges by:
- Building institutional and coaching capacity
- Introducing new sports with long-term potential
- Creating inclusive environments for diverse participants
- Supporting gender equality and community engagement
- Enhancing cooperation with EU and regional partners
